3. Hymn: More About Jesus Would I Know

Hymn: More About Jesus Would I Know
Author: E. E. Hewitt (1851-1920)

1. More about Jesus would I know,
    More of His grace to others show;
    More of his saving fullness see,
    More of His love who died for me.

Refrain:
More, more about Jesus,
More, more about Jesus;
More of His saving fullness see,
More of His love who died for me.

2. More about Jesus let me learn,
    More of his holy will discern;
    Spirit of God, my teacher be,
    Showing the things of Christ to me.

3. More about Jesus in His Word,
    Holding communion with my Lord;
    Hearing his voice in ev'ry line,
    Making each faithful saying mine.

4. More about Jesus on his throne,
    Riches in glory all His own;
    More if His kingdom's sure increase;
    More of His coming, Prince of peace.

2. Hymn: All Hail the Power of Jesus' Name

Hymn: All Hail the Power of Jesus' Name
Author: Edward Perronet (1721-1792)

1. All hail the pow'r of Jesus' Name!
    Let angels prostrate fall;
    Bring forth the royal diadem,
    And crown Him Lord of all;
    Bring forth the royal diadem,
    And crown Him Lord of all.

2. Ye seed of Israel's chosen race,
    Ye ransomed from the fall,
    Hail Him, who saves you by His grace,
    And crown Him Lord of all;
    Hail Him, who saves you by His grace,
    And crown Him Lord of all.

3. Let every kindred, every tribe,
    On this terrestrial ball
    To Him all majesty ascribe,
    And crown Him Lord of all.
    To Him all majesty ascribe,
    And crown Him Lord of all.

4. O that with yonder sacred throng
    We at His feet may fall!
    We'll join the everlasting song,
    And crown Him Lord of all.
    We'll join the everlasting song,
    And crown Him Lord of all.

1. Hymn: He Will Hold Me Fast

Hymn: He Will Hold Me Fast
Author: Ada Habershon (1861-1918) and Matthew Merker

1. When I fear my faith will fail,
    Christ will hold me fast;
    When the tempter would prevail,
    He will hold me fast.
    I could never keep my hold
    Through life’s fearful path;
    For my love is often cold;
    He must hold me fast.

Refrain:
He will hold me fast,
He will hold me fast;
For my Savior loves me so,
He will hold me fast.

2. Those He saves are His delight,
    Christ will hold me fast;
    Precious in His holy sight,
    He will hold me fast.
    He’ll not let my soul be lost;
    His promises shall last;
    Bought by Him at such a cost,
    He will hold me fast.

3. For my life He bled and died,
    Christ will hold me fast;
    Justice has been satisfied;
    He will hold me fast.
    Raised with Him to endless life,
    He will hold me fast
    ‘Till our faith is turned to sight
    When He comes at last!

1. Hymn: Hours and Days and Years and Ages

Hymn: Hours and Days and Years and Ages

Author: Rhijnuis Feith (1753-1824)

1. Hours and days and years and ages
    Swift as moving shadows flee;
    As we scan life's fleeting pages,
    Naught enduring do we see;
    On the paths our feet are wending
    Footprints all will be effaced;
    Present time to past is tending,
    Though its page is not erased.

2. But from sin Thy mercy drew us,
    Would not leave our souls alone;
    Gracious Lord, Thou didst renew us,
    All our guilt Thou didst atone;
    Yea, the plan of Thy salvation,
    For our journey, all the way,
    Is a blessed preparation,
    Leads to life of endless day.

3. And though time will all things conquer,
    It shall not our lot decide;
    Thou alone, eternal Father,
    Wilt for aye our Lord abide;
    And when dangers round us gather,
    They cannot our souls molest;
    In Thy Son Thou art our Father,
    In Thy love our hearts e'er rest.

4. Speed along, then, years and ages,
    With your gladness and your pain;
    E'en when deepest sorrow rages,
    Faithful will our God remain;
    Though all earthly friends forsake us,
    Guided by His loving hand
    To His heart we'll aye betake us,
    Looking toward our fatherland.

3. Devotional: Careful Unreasonableness

Careful Unreasonableness

by Oswald Chambers (1874-1917)

Behold the fowls of the air. (Matthew 6:26,28)

    Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow, they simply are! Think of the sea, the air, the sun, the stars and the moon - all these are, and what a ministration they exert. So often we mar God's designed influence through us by our self-conscious effort to be consistent and useful. Jesus says that there is only one way to develop spiritually, and that is by concentration on God.
    "Do not bother about being of use to others; believe on Me" - pay attention to the Source, and out of you will flow rivers of living water. We cannot get at the springs of our natural life by common sense, and Jesus is teaching that growth in spiritual life does not depend on our watching it, but on concentration on our Father in heaven. Our heavenly Father knows the circumstances we are in, and if we keep concentrated on Him we will grow spiritually as the lilies.
    The people who influence us most are not those who buttonhole us and talk to us, but those who live their lives like the stars in heaven and the lilies in the field, perfectly simply and unaffectedly. Those are the lives that mould us.
    If you want to be of use to God, get rightly related to Jesus Christ and He will make you of use unconsciously every minute you live.

2. Hymn: Holy, Holy, Holy

Hymn: Holy, Holy, Holy

Author: Reginald Heber (1783-1826)

1. Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God Almighty!
    Early in the morning our song shall rise to thee;
    Holy, Holy, Holy! Merciful and Mighty!
    God in three Persons, blessed Trinity!

2. Holy, Holy, Holy! All the saints adore thee,
    Casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea;
    Cherubim and seraphim falling down before thee,
    Who wert, and art, and evermore shalt be.

3. Holy, Holy, Holy! Though the darkness hide thee,
    Though the eye of sinful man thy glory may not see,
    Only thou art holy; there is none beside thee
    Perfect in pow'r, in love, and purity.

4. Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty!
    All thy works shall praise thy Name, in earth and sky and sea;
    Holy, Holy, Holy! Merciful and Mighty!
    God in three Persons, blessed Trinity!

1. Devotional: All Things Are Possible With God

All Things Are Possible With God

by T. Austin-Sparks (1888-1971)

The things which are impossible with men are possible with God. (Luke 18:27)

    All hangs upon this one thing (as simple as it may seem) that if Christ is present (which means nothing else than that God is present) anything is possible at any moment. Are you waiting for some day when things will be better? It is not a matter of time at all, it is a matter of Him. He says, "I am time and eternity all in a moment, and you need not accept anything in the matter of time; you accept Me, and you may be well-nigh dead in the morning and be very much alive before the day is over. 'I am the resurrection and the life.'" Mary said, “I know that He will rise again in the last day.” For her resurrection was a matter of time. Oh no. Resurrection was right there....
    As long as it takes to break a loaf you have gone from seed-time to harvest. "'Do you not say, There are yet four months, and then comes the harvest?' (John 4:35). I am here, and there can be harvest at any moment when I am here." It is not a matter of time, of circumstance. We are dealing with God, and He is not bound by anything that is known to our human life at all. Eternity dwells in any moment when He is present. All things are bound up with any moment when He is present. The centurion said, "Just say the word and my servant will be healed." "You need not come. Distance does not matter, time does not matter, just speak the word and it will be done." The Lord said, "I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel." The word was uttered, and when the enquiry was made as to when it happened it was found to synchronize with the moment when He spoke. He takes everything into His hands, and says "My hour..." and when that comes, there is no postponement. Oh, that we should lay hold of that more, live on that, never surrender to conditions, never surrender to the inevitable from the standpoint of the human, but say, "We have Him; He is our future, He is our circumstance." Anything can be at any moment with the Lord present.

3. Devotional: The Worship Of The Work

The Worship Of The Work

by Oswald Chambers (1874-1917)

Labourers together with God. (1 Corinthians 3:9)

    Beware of any work for God which enables you to evade concentration on Him. A great many Christian workers worship their work. The one concern of a worker should be concentration on God, and this will mean that all the other margins of life, mental, moral and spiritual, are free with the freedom of a child, a worshipping child, not a wayward child. A worker without this solemn dominant note of concentration on God is apt to get his work on his neck; there is no margin of body, mind or spirit free, consequently he becomes spent out and crushed. There is no freedom, no delight in life; nerves, mind and heart are so crushingly burdened that God's blessing cannot rest.
    But the other side is just as true - when once the concentration is on God, all the margins of life are free and under the dominance of God alone. There is no responsibility on you for the work; the only responsibility you have is to keep in living constant touch with God, and to see that you allow nothing to hinder your co-operation with Him. The freedom after sanctification is the freedom of a child, the things that used to keep the life pinned down are gone. But be careful to remember that you are freed for one thing only - to be absolutely devoted to your co-Worker.
    We have no right to judge where we should be put, or to have preconceived notions as to what God is fitting us for. God engineers everything; wherever He puts us our one great aim is to pour out a whole-hearted devotion to Him in that particular work. "Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might."

2. Hymn: Leave All To God

Hymn: Leave All To God

Author: Anton Ulrich, Duke of Brunswick (1633-1714)

1. Leave all to God,
    Forsaken one, and stay thy tears;
    For the Highest knows thy pain,
    Sees thy sufferings and thy fears
    Thou shalt not wait His help in vain,
    Leave all to God.

2. Be still and trust!
    For His strokes are strokes of love,
    Thou must for thy profit bear;
    He thy filial fear would move,
    Trust thy Father's loving care,
    Be still and trust!

3. Know, God is near!
    Though thou think Him far away,
    Though His mercy long have slept,
    He will come and not delay,
    When His child enough hath wept,
    For God is near!

4. O teach Him not
    When and how to hear thy prayers;
    Never doth our God forget,
    He the cross who longest bears
    Finds his sorrows' bounds are set,
    Then teach Him not.

5. If thou love Him,
    Walking truly in His ways,
    Then no trouble, cross or death,
    E'er shall silence faith and praise;
    All things serve thee here beneath,
    If thou love God!

1. Instrumental Hymns, Vol. 1

    The blood of the martyrs is the seed of the church; however, the hymns are the dry tinder for church revivals.
    There were drastic changes of social morality which happened because of the preaching of the salvation of Christ’s cross when the spirituality of God’s church reached to its climax in the past church history. And people confessed their sins and repented, and they were baptized and born again.
    Meanwhile, the messages of church were strong, solid and abundant. The published books were often classic christian literature which benefited the saints of God greatly. In the realm of hymns, there are a lot of hidden and precious treasures awaiting us to excavate and to appreciate for our enjoyment.
    May these hymns serve as the dry tinder for our spiritual revival today!
